Deadly Driving

A study by WHO (world health organization) shows that 1.2 million people have died by car accidents. it is not just the people who drive will be in danger it is also the cyclist, motorcyclist and pedestrian. 50 million other people are injured. Think about that 16.2 million people died more than there are people in all of Canada. the amount of people that died is 1/3 of all of Montreal. WHO even predicts that if people do not do anything traffic accidents will be the 5th most cause of death in the world. So I think that it should be illegal all over the planet that no person can use his phone in his car while he is driving.

Campaigners have said they hoped to cut the forecast level of fatalities over a decade by 50 per cent — saving a potential five million lives.
Without such efforts, said Dr. Ala Alwan, WHO's assistant director-general, road accidents "will otherwise become the fifth-leading cause of death by 2030" behind heart disease, strokes, respiratory infections and lung disease.

  1. Can you explain that leap of logic? For starters, did you read the article where it said:

"The study finds that more than 90 per cent of the fatalities occur in developing nations,..."

Developing nations. That means places with poor road infrastructure, poor traffic management, unsafe cars, little or no driver training, yet you jump to cell phones as the cause of this havoc? Do you think cell phones are responsible or is this just a typical knee jerk to some big number and the sad desire to "do something"? Come on, that has to be one of the most poorly thought out ideas ever posted on Liblogs. And that is saying something.

Driving a car is very boring. Perfect for nap time. I arrive at my destination very refreshed!

  3. the reason is that in poor countries they do not have the law like we do that bans cells from cars but i am not saying that other factors like the one you mentioned do not do anything i am just saying that cell phone laws are something we can change that cost nothing
